Information for health professionals and carers working in care homes
If you have residents with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 please contact the trial team to see how they can take part in PRINCIPLE: principle@phc.ox.ac.uk • 0800 138 0880
The PRINCIPLE Trial will now be able to recruit people from care homes who lack capacity. For more information please contact the PRINCIPLE team.
COVID-19 can be more severe in older people and people with underlying health conditions, and consequently has particularly affected people in nursing and care homes.
We urgently need nursing and care homes to support the study and help us identify drugs that improve recovery and prevent hospitalisation, in people with COVID-19.
If you are a care home provider, you can support the trial in various ways from displaying posters to actively recruiting participants. Whatever the level of involvement you require, we can provide you with resources needed.
Please email the team for further information, at principle@phc.ox.ac.uk
My name is Sandra Prew and I am the ENRICH National Coordinator for the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN).
ENabling Research In Care Homes (ENRICH) is all about helping to support the research community in accessing care homes, helping care home staff to understand about research and how they can be involved, and ensuring that care home residents and their families to have the same opportunity to take part in research as everyone else.
ENRICH is supporting the PRINCIPLE Study "which is a UK wide study to find treatments for COVID-19”. Why should care homes get involved? Care home residents are one of the groups at highest risk of contracting COVID 19 and they should have the same access to research studies, as people who live in their own home.
Enabling care home residents to take part in research, will give them an opportunity to access treatments, that they would otherwise not be able to receive, and will contribute to helping tackle the pandemic.
If you are a care home manager, someone who works in a care home, a care home resident, or a family member and would like to know more about the PRINCIPLE study or to find out more about your local ENRICH Network visit https://enrich.nihr.ac.uk/
Best wishes
Sandra
